I often incorporate trash into my work as a way to engage with themes of urban neglect, consumption, and the societal tendency to discard both physical objects and histories. Trash, as a symbol of what is overlooked and devalued, allows me to reflect on how marginalized communities, particularly Black communities, are often treated similarly—cast aside and erased from mainstream narratives. By integrating discarded materials, I highlight their intrinsic beauty and challenge the conventional notion of waste, turning these overlooked items into powerful symbols of reclamation and resilience. This process embodies my ongoing dialogue with memory, identity, and social justice.
